Otis Comes Home

4:00 am:
Today is the day Otis comes home. I got up at 4:00 am and the Frogdad and I got all the things needed for the trip to Winona, Mississippi. We have to be at Eric’s house by 6:00 am so we had to hustle. (Eric is Froggie’s older brother.) We had rented a Crown Victoria for the trip and Eric agreed to drive to pick up Otis. Froggie wanted to go along but we decided it would be better to conserve his energy for when Otis was home.
5:00 am
The rental car is at Eric’s house and it is about an hour away from our house. His house is closer to Interstate 55 so that saved sometime. It was still very dark out and the traffic was very late.
6:00 am
We pulled into Eric’s driveway right on time. He was just finishing a bowl of cereal. We quickly transferred all our stuff into the rental car and off we went. The Frogdad went on back home to get more sleep.
10:00 am
Well we made it through Missouri, and Arkansas and then we took a little side trip to Memphis, Tennessee. I had never been there before and Eric planned to go into downtown Memphis to see Beale Street. We ate lunch at the Hard Rock Café. Then we were back on the road again.
1:30 pm
We pulled into the truck stop at the Winona, Mississippi exit exactly one hour early. This gave Eric and I a few minutes to rest.
2:34 pm
The breeders, Madalyn and Jim, pulled in the parking lot just a few minutes late. They were really great and love corgis. Madalyn has 24 corgis and breeds 14 of those corgis. I immediately feel in love with Otis and he took to me right away too. I got numerous kisses.
2:50 pm
We were back on the road to St. Louis. Otis traveled like a champ. He was in his carrier and only cried a couple of times all the way. We did make one stop to get a hamburger at the drive up at Wendy’s and let Otis have a drink of water, a little exercise and time to pee.
9:00 pm
After driving a total of 862 miles we arrived back at the Froghouse. Otis was curious about everything in the yard and then in the house. Eric and the Frogdad took the car back to the rental store and Froggie and I played with Otis. He is very smart and as cute as he can be. We are all in love already. I think I might sleep for 2 days. I am exhausted!!
